China: Wu, a Man from China had to remove his left eye cornea because there was some kind of infection due to insect. He killed a fly that was buzzing around him after it landed on his face and within about an hour or so, his eye turned all red. Even after seeking medical attention and taking medicines, his condition kept getting worse until they had no other choice but to remove his left eyeball.
A resident of Guangdong Province, China, he was diagnosed with seasonal conjunctivitis. Even though he was on medication for the pain in his left eye, the discomfort persisted, and his vision started deteriorating. The doctors informed him that these symptoms were caused by an infection that had advanced beyond treatment, resulting in severe ulcers inside or around it. The infection threatened to spread to its brain hence the total extraction of the whole left eyeball.
According to a news post, a drain fly which usually lays its eggs into water is not an exception among insects involved here. Often these flies are found hiding in dark, wet places like bathrooms bathtubs sinks or kitchens. Experts advise staying calm if an insect approaches you near your eyes and they also say never to swat at them with hands instead just wave them lightly and then clean the area with plain water or saline solution.
