Joe Root Equals Virat Kohli’s Record
It was under the burning Multan sun, where dust danced in the air, that Joe Root chiseled his name into cricket history with a stunning double century beyond the scope of the game itself. It wasn’t just another innings; it was a bold declaration and a milestone placed him alongside some of the biggest greats like Virat Kohli.
His unbeaten 200 made him the first England cricket player to hit 20,000 runs in all formats, an elite club Kohli recently entered.
The milestone is achieved in only 350 matches and marks how remarkably consistent and long-lived Root has been, particularly in contrast to Kohli’s haul of 27,041 in 535 matches. The process through which Root has reached this milestone has been characteristic of resilience, quality, and unwavering determination—strong characteristics throughout his career.

It also marks a milestone in terms of the format in which he has excelled. And even while Kohli is often feted for his aggressive yet technically sound strokeplay, Root has so often been the one who held the fort and guided England when it was in a tough spot.

The duo is also aiming for the record for the highest partnership in Test cricket history and one that Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene hold at an impressive 624 runs. Root and Brook have added 409 runs so far. Pakistanis are dying to see their team get back on track to gain a breakthrough in the game.
Earlier, Pakistan’s much-feared batting lineup was left toothless due to the commanding first innings total of 556 by Pakistan, when the batting lineup of England replied. For England, the protege came out very well and in very quick time with Ben Duckett scoring 85 and Zak Crawley with 78.
