Israeli Airstrike Targets Gaza School Sheltering Displaced People; 28 Dead, Dozens Injured News24 –

An Israeli airstrike on a school sheltering displaced people in Central Gaza killed at least 28 people and wounded 54 others on Thursday, the Palestinian Red Crescent reported.

The strike targeted Rafida School, located near the Palestine Red Crescent Society headquarters in Deir Al-Balah, in Central Gaza. Gaza’s Health Ministry said, “The Israeli occupation committed a new massacre by targeting the displaced in the [Rafida] school in the Deir el-Balah area in the central governorate this afternoon, where 28 martyrs and more than 54 injuries arrived at the hospitals,” Al Jazeera reports.

The Israeli military said on Thursday it had carried out strikes on Hamas Terrorists operating from a so-called command and control center, embedded in a school, according to media reports.

Thursday’s Israeli attack was the latest of a wave of attacks on schools sheltering displaced people in Gaza. At least 15 people were reportedly killed in a similar attack on September 26 launched on a school that had been converted into a shelter in northern Gaza.

According to media reports, at least 42,065 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s military campaign in Gaza since the conflict erupted in October 2023.
