More than 60 people were wounded in a drone strike south of Haifa, Israel, on Sunday, October 13. The attack, claimed by Hezbollah, marks a serious escalation in the ongoing conflict between the Lebanese militant group and Israel. The Israeli volunteer rescue service, United Hatzalah, swiftly responded, providing medical aid to the injured.
Hezbollah Launches Drone Strike
Hezbollah, which has been involved in cross-border hostilities with Israel, took responsibility for the attack, stating that “a squadron of attack drones” targeted a military base in Binyamina, south of Haifa. The militant group claimed the strike was in retaliation for recent Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon. This is part of an increasing trend of drone and rocket launches by Hezbollah aimed at Israeli targets.
United Hatzalah Responds To Casualties
Following the drone attack, United Hatzalah ambulance teams provided urgent medical assistance to over 60 injured individuals. According to their official statement posted on social media, the injuries varied in severity, ranging from critical to mild. “With the help of United Hatzalah ambulance teams, we provided assistance to over 60 wounded people with varying degrees of injuries – critical, serious, moderate, and mild,” the statement read. The wounded were transported to nearby hospitals for further medical care.
Recent Incidents Intensify Conflict
This attack follows another incident just two days prior when air raid sirens sounded in central Israel after drones entered the country from Lebanon. One building was damaged north of Tel Aviv, raising concerns about the increasing reach of Hezbollah’s operations. The group has been launching frequent drone and rocket attacks across the border for over a year, but the intensity and range of its strikes have increased since late September, escalating the conflict.
Israel’s Air Defences Intercept Most Attacks
Israel’s advanced air defence systems, particularly the Iron Dome, have intercepted the majority of Hezbollah’s incoming projectiles, minimizing casualties. Although Sunday’s drone strike resulted in numerous injuries, many of Hezbollah’s previous attacks have caused little damage due to the effectiveness of Israel’s defences. However, the rising number of assaults adds significant strain to the defence infrastructure.
Growing Hostilities In The Region
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah continues to escalate with no signs of easing. As Hezbollah increases the frequency and range of its attacks, both sides remain locked in a dangerous cycle of retaliation. With tensions rising and more incidents expected, the region faces growing instability in the weeks to come.
