Temba Bavuma Ruled Out Of Second Test Due To Elbow Injury News24 –

BAN vs SA: Temba Bavuma will miss the second men’s Test against Bangladesh starting Tuesday in Chattogram with an elbow injury. Aiden Markram, who captained the team to a seven-wicket win in the first Test in Mirpur, will retain his position as skipper.

Injury Details

Bavuma was ruled out of cricket due to an injury to his left elbow while diving during the ODI against Ireland in Abu Dhabi on 4 October. The injury is related to an earlier elbow fracture he suffered in the T20I against India in Rajkot in June 2022. This time, soft tissue damage has been diagnosed, according to team management.

Team Management Reaction

“We feel he won’t be available for the second Test, so we will change his rehabilitation schedule to have him fit for the series against Sri Lanka,” declared Shukri Conrad at a media chat. Bavuma is, of course, the country’s best Test bat, and losing him is a huge blow, but the team is ready to cope with the loss.

Bavuma’s Batting Stats

Despite criticism for just two centuries in 101 innings, Bavuma has scored 3,102 runs since his debut against the West Indies in December 2014. This places him second, behind Dean Elgar, in terms of runs scored for South Africa. Additionally, no active cricketer has a better average than that of Bavuma’s 35.25. Furthermore, of current South African players, he has the most half-centuries he has scored in his career, that is, 23.

Future Projections For Bavuma

Conrad admitted he wasn’t sure if Bavuma would leave straightaway. “It’s Temba’s decision with the manager, but I’d like him to stay. He still plays a useful role; it’s still his team.” Bavuma might want to return home for his young family.

Next Domestic Matches

South Africa’s domestic first-class cricket competition begins on Wednesday, and Bavuma could feature in as many as three games before the first Test against Sri Lanka, which starts on November 27 at Kingsmead.
