Startups Surge To 9,000, Bioeconomy Eyes $ 300 Billion By 2030, Says Union Minister Jitendra Singh News24 –
While addressing FE Green Sarathi Summit, Union Minister Jitendra Singh stated that India’s biotech ecosystem has expanded significantly. It saw a growth from 50 startups in 2014 to around 9,000 startups today.
He also mentioned the impressive growth of India’s bioeconomy. India’s Bioeconomy surged from 10 billion dollars in 2014 to 130 billion dollars in 2024. Its growth is likely to touch 300 billion dollars by 2030.
As quoted by Financial Express, Union Minister Jitendra Singh stated that, “With the kind of threat of pollution, the climate challenges, etc., being faced, this government has held sustainability at a very high priority. This is quite contrary to the times till about 10-15 years ago when India was not taken very seriously as far as issues like climate or the green concerns because they thought either India was alien to it or maybe we didn’t understand the seriousness of it.”
Emphasizing India’s commitment to achieve the target of net zero by 2070, announced by PM Narendra Modi in 2021, Jitendra Singh mentioned that India has seen transformation, and reached a level where it can set a new target for others.
Jitendra Singh talked about India’s green hydrogen mission and mission for climate change. He further mentioned that the nation talks about biodiversity-related issues.
He further mentioned that India is the first country to come up with the biotechnology policy.
