“Some criminals from Samity Para, adjacent to the Cox’s Bazar Air Force base, launched an attack on the Cox’s Bazar Air Force base. The Bangladesh Air Force is taking the necessary measures in this regard.” said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the public relations division of the Bangladesh Armed Forces in a statement on Monday.
The attack was triggered hours after a land dispute broke out earlier on Monday, which led to a confrontation between Air Force personnel and local residents. The issue escalated as the locals pelted stones. The death count may increase, according to officials.
According to local media, the deceased suffered a gunshot wound on the back of his head. “Investigation is underway to determine the reason behind the fight,” said Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin. Following the incident, security measures have been intensified in the area.
