Microsoft’s Ai Tools Aid Farmers Grow Better Crop Yield- Satya Nadella Shares How Ai Tools Could Improve Farming Practices News24 –

Microsoft Geospatial data, Spatial Temporal Data from Drones and satellites and soil are of integral importance for the farmers. Beyond the importance of the Data its availability in Local vernacular languages further helps the users understand the data and use the best possible practices for their farming. Satya Nadella on Monday revealed that a slew of farmers have been using Microsoft’s Ai tools to predict weather, use proper fertilizers to combat pests and get the best possible yields.

He Wrote – “The one example I wanted to highlight was one of the small farmers who was part of the Baramati co-op… where you can take this powerful technology but make it have impact, where a small landowner is able to improve the yield of their land,”

Nadella further spoke about how the tool has been able to help farmers to reduce the chemical use and improve the water usage and spread across the field. The Ai tools as per him use geospatial data, spatial temporal data from drones, satellites and soil to proffer the best practices for the farmers. Such tools would help farmers understand the best practices for their lands in the vernacular languages 

Story Of The Farmer

One of the farmers that has benefitted from the use of the Microsoft Ai tool has been Suresh Jagtap. He is a 65 year old farmer who has been tending to his sugarcane farm and has grown a great dependence of Ai tools for better farming techniques. He has been suing the Ai content to channel out the time when the sucrose content in the cane is at its highest. 

The crop wont be harvested till November 2025, But Jagtap said he can already see the difference that Ai tools have been able to bring into his crop. 

How Do Ai Tools Collect And Process Data 

Jagtap and a pool of other farmers had voluntarily opted for the experiment , and have been aided by the Agricultural Development Trust. Of Baramati. The Ai tools utilize a test plot which acts as a weather station. At the top are the wind, rain, solar, temperature and humidity gauges, while there are sensors at the bottom that allow it to gauge the different parameters on which the quality of the crop are based on. 

The various parameters that are actively measured are soil moisture, Ph and Electrical Conductivity, presence of nutrients like potassium and nitrogen. 

The project was unveiled in 2024, the project involved crops such as sugarcane, tomato and lady fingers as well. The Insights have been harnessed by Ai to provide the best possible care for the crops. The project has been called the farm of the future. 

As per the results the new Ai tools have yielded crops that was taller thicker, and weighed 30 to 40 % more at harvest.  The overall sucrose content in the crop was about 20% more sucrose.  The plot required less water and fertilizer and beyond that the entire crop cycle was shorter as well. Instead of the usual 18 this crop took only 12 months.  Such tools and applications can probably help farmers yield better outputs with lesser expenses.
