The Karnataka section of the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway has unofficially opened, with around 1,600 to 2,000 vehicles using it daily. Toll collection hasn’t started yet because the NHAI is waiting for further instructions. The 68 km stretch connects to local roads, and once completed, the full 260 km route will link Bengaluru and Chennai. However, there will be some vehicle restrictions on certain parts of the expressway.
Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, Karnataka Section Opens: Toll Charges Pending Approval
The Karnataka section of the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway has opened, but toll collection hasn’t started yet. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is waiting for approval to begin toll charges. According to a report by The Times of India, an NHAI official said, “Drivers are using the stretch from Hoskote to Bethamangala. We have made sure all safety measures are in place. We can’t restrict any type of vehicle until we get the official toll notification.”
Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway To Connect Both Cities
The 68 km section of the expressway is toll-free, letting drivers exit at Bethamangala and use local roads to reach Mulbagal and the Andhra Pradesh border. The final 3 km in Karnataka should open by the end of the year, along with the rest of the road beyond the state. The full 260 km expressway will link Bengaluru to Sriperumbudur near Chennai, allowing speeds of up to 120 km/h.

In Karnataka, NHAI plans to build two toll plazas. Just like the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, where bikes, autorickshaws, and tractors are not allowed, these vehicles might also be restricted on the new expressway.
