Donald Trump Declares English As Official Language In United States, Signs Executive Order News24 –

US President Donald Trump made an official announcement designating English as the national language of America to promote unity among the immigrant population. Through an executive order issued on Saturday, Trump expressed that it was long past time for US to take English as its official language.

As quoted by Times of India, the order mentioned that, “A nationally designated language is at the core of a unified and cohesive society, and the United States is strengthened by a citizenry that can freely exchange ideas in one shared language.”

A memo from Trump reversed a policy implemented by Bill Clinton during his presidency, which provided support for non-English speakers through government agencies. Under the new order, agencies can establish their own guidelines for delivering multilingual assistance.

Several executive orders signed by US President Donald Trump from the date he took charge as President of United States. The White House acknowledged the existence of 350 national languages but asserted that the United States has always maintained English as its foundational language. According to the order, the nation’s historical founding documents, including the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, were originally composed in English.

According to U.S. government statistics from 2019, 68 million people in the country speak a language other than English at home. While English remains the dominant language in the U.S, over 40 million Americans speak Spanish domestically.
