Pakistan Discovers ₹80,000 Crore Worth Of Reserves In Indus River Bed, Eyes Economic Boost News24 –

A gold reserve worth over Rs 80,000 crore has been discovered by Pakistan in the Indus River, according to Dawn News on Monday, adding that the gold was found in Attock in Punjab province. It was found through a government-commissioned survey, which was headed by the state-owned National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) and the Mines and Minerals Department Punjab, said the report, adding it is expected to be a major milestone in the mining history of Pakistan.

“Consultancy Services for Preparing Bidding Documents and Transaction Advisory Services for Nine Placer Gold Blocks along River Indus in District Attock,” said Zargham Eshaq Khan, managing director of NESPAK, the report said as quoted by Dawn News

According to the article, geologists believe that the Indus River transports gold reserves from India’s Himalayas, which collect in the territory that became Pakistan after the split in the form of placer gold or nuggets. Due to the river’s vast flow, the gold placers or nuggets are either flat or entirely spherical.

It added, the Indus River valley is rich in mineral resources and is known for its gold and other precious metal deposits.

Referring to the Express Tribune, the Dawn stated the State Bank of Pakistan’s gold holdings were worth $5.43 billion in December 2024.

Pakistan’s economy confronts numerous challenges, including declining foreign exchange reserves and a weaker currency. According to reports, the growth of gold reserves is expected to give much-needed financial assistance to the country. If this mining expedition is successful and the government is able to extract the gold, it is expected to increase the country’s gold production and status among worldwide peers.
