Turkish Foreign Minister’s Warning On Syria Upsets Iran; Both Nations Summon Their Envoys News24 –

Turkey and Iran are not on good terms over Syria. The foreign ministries of both nations summoned their envoys after a diplomatic face-off over Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan’s warning to Iran to not destabilise Syria.

While Speaking to Al Jazeera last week, Fidan said that Iran’s reliance on militia policy was ‘dangerous’ and it needs to be changed.

The foreign minister said that if the Iranians create chaos in the country, the other nations can do the same by backing groups present in Iran.

Upset Iran over Fidan’s remarks, Iran’s foreign minister summoned a Turkish envoy and lodged their protest against the remarks.

Iran told the Turkish envoy, Hicabi Kırlangıç, that the country should refrain from making such remarks that can impact the bilateral relations of the two countries.

After Iran’s move, Turkey too summoned Iran’s envoy to Ankara. Turkish foreign ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli said that Iranian officials are criticising Turkey in public often and foreign policy matters should not be used in domestic politics.
