Pakistan Train Hijack: BLA Claims Responsibility
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) on Tuesday took the responsibility of the incident. The organisation in a statement said that it has taken as the passengers of Jaffar Express train as hostages. It further added that the captives will be executed if Pakistani forces launch an operation.
The statement read: “The BLA issues a final warning: if the aerial bombardment is not halted immediately, all 100+ hostages will be executed within the next hour. Majeed Brigade, STOS, Fateh Squad, and ZIRAB Unit fighters are actively engaged in countermeasures, and any further military incursion will have catastrophic consequences.”
How Terrorists Attacked Jaffar Express
According to Railway officials, the Jaffar Express left Quetta for Peshawar with 450 passengers in nine bogies. Around 1pm, they received information that the train had come under attack between the Paneer and Peshi railway stations, near Railway Tunnel No 8, located near Mushkaf.
Armed men fired rockets at the locomotive and opened fire, which caused the train to stop. The driver of the locomotive was seriously injured, reported Dawn. The attackers martyred a number of security personnel and hijacked the train. After that they started checking passengers’ identities and took some passengers hostage before they fled. Reports suggest that large group of armed attackers were sheltered in the mountains. They also damaged the railway line with explosives.
Moreover, the attack took place in the Bolan region, which is a very rocky area with 17 tunnels and considered inaccessible. The speed of the train was slower due to this, and the attackers took benefit of it. They first detonated an explosion in one of the tunnels and then opened fire on the train.
