US Rejects French Politican’s Demand To Return The Statue of Liberty, Says ‘Because Of The USA, The French Are Not Speaking German Right Now’ News24 –
After French politician Raphael Glucksmann suggested that the Statue of Liberty should be returned to France, the United States strongly reacted and rejected the idea. The US said that the statements were “politically motivated and unwarranted.”
Glucksmann recently expressed his discontent over the Donald Trump administration’s policies regarding international relations and scientific freedom. He said that the United States no longer upholds the values that inspired its country to give him the monument as a gift.
Reacting strongly to remarks of French politicians, US Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, said, “Absolutely not! My advice to that unnamed low-level French politician would be to remind them that it’s only because of the USA that the French are not speaking German right now. So they should be very grateful to our great country.”
The Statue of Liberty was presented to the United States over its 100th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence.
Glucksmann is a strong critic of Donald Trump’s policies and he was upset with the shift in policy to the Russia-Ukraine war. He slammed the Far-right leaders in France and accused them of “fan club” followers of US President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk.
