Bank Holiday: Public and private sector banks in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, will be closed on March 27 and 28 to observe religious events that mark the end of Ramadan. Notably, Shab-e-Qadr, or the ‘Night of Power‘, will be observed on March 27. This event in Islamic tradition, believed to be the night when the Quran, was first sent from the heaven. Furthermore, the occasion is celebrated with special prayers and religious gatherings.
Moreover, March 28 marks the Jumat-ul-Vida, the last Friday of Ramadan. Meanwhile, this year, Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, is falling on Monday, March 31.
Moreover, the banks will remain open on March 29, which is the fifth Saturday of the month. However, banks will be closed on March 30 because of Sunday.
Bank Holiday: Banks Open Or Closed On March 31?
Initially, the RBI’s calendar had declared March 31 as a bank holiday on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. However, in February, the central bank cancelled this holiday as March 31 also marks the last date of the current financial year 2024-25. Moreover, March 31 is also the deadline for all financial transactions of the current financial year.
Therefore, to maintain accurate financial reporting and avoid discrepancies, banks will now remain open on Monday, March 31.
With multiple holidays, customers of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are advised to visit their local bank branches for any further query.
However, Digital banking services, including net banking, will remain available throughout the year, even on holidays when bank branches are closed. Customers can also use online banking, mobile banking apps, UPI, and ATM services, unless maintenance work is scheduled. Additionally, services like opening fixed deposits or recurring deposits may also be accessible on some days.
