The police investigation identified the deceased as Asma Khan, who studied civil engineering at Jamia Millia Islamia before she obtained a job at a private firm based in Sector 62. Noor-ul-lah Haider spent his time operating his trading business at home instead of leaving the place. The husband felt irritated because his wife had obtained employment, police said.
The husband and wife tied the knot in 2005 and their two children study in different fields with the first child pursuing engineering while the other one studies in class eight. The family occupied the upper floor of their Sector 15 two-and-a-half-storey house while earning income from renting the lower floor to paying guests. Asma’s mother with both children resided in the family house during the time of her death.
Noor-ul-la spent years believing his wife was in relationship with another man which often triggered arguments between them. A fierce row between the couple reached its peak on Friday when Noor-ul-lah grabbed a hammer to strike his wife Asma multiple times across her head until she died. Upon finishing the murder he went to Sector 20 police station. As the incident falls under the jurisdiction of Phase 1 police station, a case was registered there and further investigation is underway.
