Ali Fazal And Sonali Bendre To Star As Investigators In New Web Series

Indian actor Ali Fazal and Sonali Bendre are said to be collaborating for their upcoming web series inspired by the 1978 Geeta and Sanjay Chopra kidnapping and murder case, popularly known as the Ranga-Billa case. This film shows one of India’s most horrifying criminal incidents through a powerful cinematic lens.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, it is said that the series is currently being shot in New Delhi.

The series deals with the case that shook the nation, which led to the death sentence for the convicted criminals, Kuljeet Singh (aka Ranga) and Jasbir Singh (aka Billa). This incident took place in the year of 1982. In this web series, Sonali and Ali will play the characters of investigative officers who are tasked to crack this dreadful case.

As per their source, “The team has been researching the case for several months. Both Sonali and Ali will be playing investigative officers who will be working on solving the case. Shooting is underway in Delhi and is expected to continue through the end of April. This is the first time a series based on the Ranga-Billa case is being made, and it will explore the events in depth.”

“After the shoot in Delhi, the crew will move to multiple locations in Uttar Pradesh, followed by a final schedule in Mumbai later in the month. The story has been treated with sensitivity and aims to show how deeply the case affected Delhi,” added the source.

It is expected that the series will enter into post-production in June and July and is reportedly to be released by the end of this year.

As per the report filed at that time, the children were kidnapped for ransom by Ranga and Billa, but they were tragically killed after knowing that their father (a Naval Officer) was not as well off as it was expected.

Indian actress Sonali Bendre is well known for her contribution to Tamil, Telugu and Hindi language films. Her last movie appearance was in Love You Hamesha, released in 2022. The film also stars Akshaye Khanna, Amitabh Nanda, Rohit Bal, Rishma Malik, Dalip Tahil, Vijayendra Ghatge and Riya Sen in the lead roles.
