Why Did BCCI Sack Abhishek Nayar, T Dilip From Coaching Staff? Check Who’ll Be Appointed Next News24 –
Following India’s dismal loss in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun a major overhaul of the support staff of the national team. The decision has been made as part of a bid to revamp and restructure the team in preparation for key upcoming matches.
Abhishek Nayar, T Dilip Sacked By BCCI
Among those shown the door is assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, who had joined the setup just eight months ago. He is accompanied by fielding coach T. Dilip, strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai, and a team masseur, all of whom have been terminated after India’s dismal red-ball performances at home and overseas. These developments reflect the desire of BCCI to overhaul the support system following persistent struggles, and specifically the batting unit, in the recently concluded series against New Zealand at home and the BGT defeat in Australia.
BCCI Looking For Consistency
In the wake of the inconsistency of the batting unit earlier this year, the BCCI had already gone back to Sitanshu Kotak, a reliable coach from the National Cricket Academy and India A infrastructure, to oversee the team during white-ball duties. Though the new-staffed team was initially plagued by setbacks, with Gautam Gambhir’s leadership, the team wonderfully bounced back, winning the Champions Trophy—a high for Nayar, Kotak, Ryan ten Doeschate, and Morne Morkel, who were all members of the backroom staff during that victorious stint.
Ryan ten Doeschate Likely To Be The New Fielding Coach
While Nayar’s stint is over, the other members of the core group are intact. Meanwhile, Ryan ten Doeschate is likely to take over fielding coaching duties, with no short-term replacements announced for either Nayar or Dilip. The new support staff is set to join the Indian team before the critical five-Test home series against England, which begins on June 20.
Change Required After Border-Gavaskar Trophy Defeat
With mounting pressure after the BGT defeat, the BCCI’s reshuffle appears aimed at boosting morale and laying a solid foundation before the high-profile red-ball challenge against England. However, fans remain curious whether permanent replacements for the vacant roles will be announced before the series begins.
