Emraan Hashmi sparked the buzz among the fans when he announced that Awarapan 2 is in the works. A sequel of the romantic drama released in 2007 which is widely regarded as one of Emraan’s finest performances.
He recently opened up about the possibility of Jannat 3, sparking fresh excitement among the fans. While he didn’t confirm it outright, he said there are ongoing conversations, and the idea is definitely on the table. While speaking to Bollywood Hungama during his promotional event of his upcoming film Ground Zero he said, “We’re not just making a sequel for the sake of it — then we’ll announce it. Right now, we’re trying to make sure Jannat can return to the big screen with the impact it deserves.” Though nothing is locked yet, his words hint that something big could be brewing.
He confirmed that Awarapan 2 is officially happening. The script is ready, and the shoot is expected to begin in July or August this year. He explained that even though Awarapan didn’t do well at the box office when it released, it became a cult classic, “I always say the success of a film in theatres should not be the only yardstick to measure its impact. A perfect example of this is Awarapan. The kind of goodwill, attention, and love that the film has garnered through different mediums — satellite, torrent, internet — is huge. That’s why we felt we shouldn’t rush into making a sequel.”
The original Awarapan starred Emraan alongside Shriya Saran, Mrinalini Sharma, and Ashutosh Rana and directed by Mohit Suri. The film’s songs are still cherished by fans.
While fans wait for official word on Jannat 3, Emraan is gearing up for the release of his upcoming movie Ground Zero, directed by Tejas Deoskar, the film is co-produced by Kassim Jagmagia, Vishal Ramchandani, Sundeep C Sidhwani, Arhan Bagati, Talisman Films, Abhishek Kumar and Nishikant Roy will hit the theatres on April 25.
