The incident has been reported from Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh. When the complainant, 22-year-old Mohammad Azeem, resident of Brahmpuri arrived for his nikah (wedding ceremony), he thought that he was going to marry Mantasha (the girl). However, he was left shocked after what he discovered when he lifted the bride’s veil. Instead of Mantasha, he found a 45-year-old widow, the mother of the bride sitting in her place.
What Did Police Say?
Azeem stated to police that his wedding was arranged with Mantasha from Shamli district by his brother Nadeem and his wife, Shaida.
According to Police, Azeem stated that his wedding took place on March 31. He uncovered the deceitful incident, when during the Nikah, the Maulvi referred to the bride as Tahira. He grew suspicious as the bride’s name was supposed to be Mantasha. Azeem then lifted the veil and discovered that widowed mother of Mantasha had gotten married to him. He further claimed that Rs 5 lakh had been exchanged during the wedding ceremony.

Reacting on the incident, CO Brahmapuri Saumya Asthana said, “A settlement has been reached between the involved parties. Azeem has withdrawn his complaint and indicated that he does not wish to pursue any legal action at this time.”
