Janhvi Kapoor Says ‘ICONIC’ As Sridevi’s ‘Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari’ Gears Up For Re-Release In Theatres


Late Sridevi and Megastar Chiranjeevi’s 1990 blockbuster Telugu film, Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, will mark its 35th anniversary on May 9. To celebrate the occasion, filmmakers, Vyjayanthi Movies, announced its re-release. The film will be re-released on the same day it was first released 35 years ago.

Vyjayanthi Movies shared the news through an Instagram post, in which they shared the poster of the film with the caption, “From the era of classics… to the hearts of a new generation #JagadekaVeeruduAthilokaSundari re-releasing on May 9th in 2D & 3D.” Later, actress and Sridevi’s daughter, Janhvi Kapoor, showed excitement for the movie and shared this news on her Instagram story, with the caption ‘Iconic’.

Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari was a massive success when it was released in 1990. The film grossed a total of Rs 15 crore at the box office back in the day. Alongside Sridevi and Chiranjeevi, the film cast also includes Amrish Puri, Kannada Prabhakar, Allu Ramalingaiah, and Rami Reddy in supporting roles in various supporting roles.

During an interview with a web channel, producer Ashwini Dutt shared about her plans on making the sequel of Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari. According to reports Ram Charan and Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor were rumoured to play the lead roles, later Dutt slammed the rumours and termed them as mere speculations. After that the topic was never brought up.

Ashwini Dutt also shared some surprising facts about the film, he talked about the remuneration of the lead cast, saying that he paid Rs 35 lakh to Chiranjeevi and Rs 25 lakh to Sridevi for the film. “Her [Sridevi] craze was at peaks during that time and she received salary on par with star heroes.” The producer added.

The story of the Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari focuses on a man who finds a magical ring, however, a goddess things take a dramatic turn when a a goddess comes to reclaim it. The film was the highest-grossing Telugu film at the time, bagging five Nandi Awards.

Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari aka JVAS, translates Universal Hero and the Otherworldly Beauty in English. It was directed by directed by K Raghavendra Rao, and co-written by Jandhyala and Yandamuri Veerendranath.
