Heavy rainfall combined with strong winds compelled officials to end the IPL 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Eden Gardens on Saturday, thus leading to point sharing between both teams. Shreyas Iyer selected bowling as the first choice for KKR after taking the opening decision. During PBKS’s initial batting inning, both Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh successfully built a 120-run partnership. Arya provided the KKR offense with a rapid 69 from 35 balls before Prabhsimran batted through the innings to score 83 from 49 balls.
The combination between Shreyas Iyer and aggressive batting from his teammates produced 201 for 4 as PBKS finished their batting innings. Vaibhav Arora delivered exceptional bowling performance for KKR as he dismissed two batters and gave away only 34 runs to finish the match. Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy endured an unsatisfactory outing by giving away over 180 runs from only their 20 overs.
KKR initiated their batting innings at the beginning of heavy rainfall. The batting lineup achieved 7 for 1 by the end of the first over but Mother Nature brought unexpected conditions to the match. Although the rain intensity remained moderate strong winds made it unfeasible for the ground attendants to shield the playing field. The match referees performed successive inspections but the field conditions failed to show improvement until the officials eventually declared the contest without any result.
The first no-result of IPL 2025 season unfolded during this match. The equal points between PBKS after their strong batting display will possibly impact their chances of qualifying for the playoffs. The abandonment of play represents a lost chance for KKR to pursue a tough target against their home supporters.
