Comedian Abhishek Upmanyu recently landed in trouble after responding to a Pakistani social media user. He sparked a widespread backlash after his remarks went viral, prompting him to deactivate his X account. The fresh controversy surrounding him comes at a time when the nation is still reeling in grief after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, which claimed 26 people’s lives, who were mostly tourists.

Since yesterday, Abhishek has been facing the wrath of social media users after agreeing to a comment posted by a social media user from Pakistan, which said, “You lot deserve all the racism you’re facing in the west.” The uproar began when an internet personality, Abhijit Iyer Mitra, reposted an abusive note for women across the border on the microblogging platform X.

Who Is Abhishek Upmanyu?

Abhishek Upmanyu is a stand-up comedian who rose to fame after his videos on social media went viral. He has a massive fan following of 2.7 million on Instagram and 5.26 million subscribers on YouTube. Upmanyu gained significant recognition as a writer for “On Air with AIB”, a popular comedy show. Meanwhile, he further solidified his presence in the standup comedy world with his funny YouTube videos.

About The Controversy

Responding to the post, the Pakistani user with the account name @lilmisskhawaja wrote, “Zero class. Abuse is not equal to humour. The whole world sees your country as this hub of rapists and rightfully so. This is ‘funny’ according to the average Indian. You lot deserve all the racism you’re facing in the west”.

Shortly after, Abhishek reacted with a “Yup” under it, seemingly agreeing with what the Pakistani user said. After the controversy escalated, the comedian’s official account is not visible on X. Additionally, he has yet to make a statement on the backlash. Meanwhile, the X handle @lilmisskhawaja has been withheld. The, account now shows, “The account has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand”.
