Delhi’s Dwarka Expressway Set To Open Soon, Reducing IGI Airport Travel Time To 30 Minutes News24 –

Residents commuting between Delhi and Gurugram will soon experience relief when the Dwarka Expressway Delhi section finally launches. After becoming operational the expressway will lower traffic volume on Delhi-Gurugram Expressway to about 30 percent while relieving congestion. Jagran.com reports that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) seeks a formal inauguration opportunity from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for beginning the Delhi segment.

After finalization of the date the preparations will start immediately. Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially started the Gurugram segment of the Dwarka Expressway when he performed an inaugural ceremony during the previous year.

The Delhi-Dwarka-Gurugram Expressway known as Dwarka Expressway or Northern Peripheral Road spans a total distance of 29 kilometers to join Dwarka, Delhi with Gurugram in Haryana. When the Delhi stretch opens for service the travelling time from Manesar to Delhi Airport will decrease to 30 minutes.

Open access to the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway will help reduce daily traffic problems at three main areas including the congested Sirhaul border location combined with Dhaula Kuan and Mahipalpur sectors. The extension running from Kherki Daula toll plaza by Gurugram until Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur Delhi has reached completion status together with its tunneled sections which previously created operational challenges. Security checks finished for all tunnels which now allow passage through this section.

The project cost is around Rs 9,000 crore, and it has been built with cutting-edge technology: – Tunnel lengths: approx. 4 km and 2.5 km – Equipped with high-pressure mist fire systems – Over 23 km of the expressway is elevated, with a significant portion constructed on a single-pillar design—a first in India – Uses 2 lakh metric tonnes of steel (30x the Eiffel Tower) – Around 20 lakh cubic metres of concrete used (6x more than Burj Khalifa)

Heavy traffic jams persist at present through the period of peak hours throughout wedding seasons on the stretch between Sirhaul and Mahipalpur. The tunnel opening serves as a diversion for airport-bound vehicles thus relieving the heavy traffic on Delhi-Gurugram roads. Residential and commuting individuals along with professional community members have requested that authorities immediately open the tunnel like the Gurugram section early before official inauguration. The residents maintain that immediate relief from thousands of people would result from its implementation.
