J&K Student Assaulted By Local Residents News24 –

A group of local residents thrashed a student from Jammu and Kashmir at a pharmacy college in Maharashtra’s Nagpur. The police said the motive behind the incident is yet to be established. 

According to PTI, the incident took place in the Kampte area of the state. The police have not received any complaint from either side into the matter. 

The police said two first-year students from Jammu’s Doda were returning from their hostel. One of them had gone to attend nature’s call while the second was waiting for him. At the same time, the local residents approached him and asked why he was standing alone on the road. They also asked where he was from.  As he did not answer their questions, they started thrashing him, the police said. 

Later, the other student returned and apprised them that they were students of a local college and then the residents allowed them to go, the police said. 

One of the students highlighted the incident to J&K Students Association office-bearer Nasir Khuehami, who posted the matter on X. He urged Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis to look into the matter.

 While talking to the news agency, the student rejected any hate motive behind the attack.

On April 28, the Chandigarh Police implemented special measures to enhance the safety and security of Kashmiri students studying in various educational institutions across the city, including Panjab University and DAV College, according to an official statement.

This action follows the recent Pahalgam incident that raised concerns. Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS, SSP/UT, Chandigarh, held a meeting with Kashmiri students to address their concerns regarding safety.

As part of these measures, a Special Assistance Desk has been established at the Police Control Room in Sector 9. Additionally, residents have been advised to contact the Emergency Helpline at 112 in the event of any distress or security concerns.
