Communal tension erupted after a 12-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 60-year-old man in Uttarakhand’s Nainital. The police arrested the accused, who has been identified as Usman.

The authorities deployed heavy police personnel after the incident triggered chaos and vandalism on the street. Protesters targeted shops owned by Muslims and vandalised their shops. The protesters also pelted stones at the mosque, the police said.
Hindu outfits staged protests
According to PTI, a massive protest broke out after the medical reports confirmed the assault. A few members of Hindu outfits vandalised vehicles.
The Chief Minister Office (CMO) stated: “Uttarakhand government is in action mode against the accused who raped a minor in Nainital district of Uttarakhand. Not only is legal action being taken against the accused, but the administration is now preparing to take action on his illegal construction as well. A notice has been pasted at the residence of the accused by the Municipal Administration. In the preliminary investigation, this house has been found to be illegally constructed on the land of the Forest Department. The administration has made it clear that the illegal construction will be demolished soon…Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured the public that whoever is guilty, the law will do its job and the identity of Uttarakhand will not be allowed to be hurt at any cost.”
