A NEET aspirant allegedly ended her life by hanging herself from an iron grille in Rajasthan’s Kota, only a few hours before the national medical entrance exam on Sunday. Circle inspector at the Kunhadi police station, Arvind Bhardwaj, said the girl was a minor and the student was from Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh.
As per news agency PTI, the girl had been staying with her family in Kota for the past few years and preparing for NEET-UG at a coaching institute. The student was going to take the NEET-UG exam that will be held at various centres across the country on Sunday.
However, on Saturday evening she hanged herself with a scarf that was attached to an iron grille in her room on Saturday evening. Family members were reportedly at home during the incident and found her dead around 9 pm, PTI said. He stated that no suicide note was recovered from her room.
Kota Suicides
Kota reported the 14th suicide of a coaching student this year since January. Last year, there were a total of 17 suicides of coaching students.
Kota Coaching Centre’s Reprimanded By CCPA
Last month, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) reprimanded several coaching centres for violating advertising standards and engaging in unfair trade practices with respect to educational institutions engaged in preparing students for JEE for undergraduate engineering programs and NEET for undergraduate medical programs.
A notice was issued against those institutes for falsely promising top ranks, assuring selections, and failing to provide the promised service. “Advertisements must be clear, honest and not conceal crucial information from prospective students and their families,” said a senior consumer affairs ministry official familiar with the development.
