IMD Issues Orange Alert For Today! Thunderstorm, Rain And Gusty Winds Expected This Week – Check Forecast News24 –


Delhi: The rainy spell will continue in Delhi, providing extended relief to residents from the scorching heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Monday, May 5. Delhi has been experiencing rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and gusty winds over the past few days. This week (May 5-11) will also see changes in weather conditions, with rain predicted on most days. In its weather bulletin, the IMD stated that the maximum temperatures will remain appreciably below normal (03-05°C) during next 48 hours in the national capital. The changes in weather condition over Delhi has been attributed to active Western disturbance. This western disturbance, as a cyclonic circulation lies over central Pakistan adjoining Punjab and northwest Rajasthan.

Forecast For Monday, May 5

Talking about how the weather will remain on Monday, May 5, the IMD forecast indicates of a rainy day. An orange alert for thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, strong surface winds has been issued by the IMD. Generally cloudy sky, light rain accompanied with thunderstorm/ lightning and strong surface winds with speed increasing temporarily up to 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph during thunderstorm towards night are expected in Delhi today. The IMD has ruled out any heatwave conditions as the maximum temperature is expected to remain 36 degrees Celsius on Monday. A humidity level of 24 per cent is likely in the national capital.

Weather Forecast For This Week

This week will begin with rain, which is expected to continue in the coming days. The maximum and minimum temperatures are in currently in the range of 34 to 36°C and 23 to 24°C respectively. Rain with thunderstorm will lash the capital until May 7. Light rain or drizzle is expected between May 8 and May 9. Surface winds are likely to prevail on all days until May 8. Furthermore, cloudy sky will persist in the national until May 10. A yellow alert for thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, strong surface winds has been issued for Tuesday, May 6. The IMD has forecast no heatwave condition this week, offering relief for extended period.

Precautions Advised

In view of the intense weather, residents are advised to stay cautious and follow necessary actions to avert any danger.
People are advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places accordingly.
Stay indoors, close windows and doors and avoid travel if possible.
Take safe shelters; do not take shelter under trees.
Do not lie on concrete floors and do not lean against concrete walls.
Unplug electrical/ electronic appliances.
Immediately get out of water bodies. Keep away from all the objects that conduct electricity.
