J&K Minister Sakina Itoo Demands Judicial Probe After 23-Year-Old’s Body Found In Kulgam River News24 –
Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo visited the family of slain 23-year-old Imtiyaz Ahmad Magray in Kulgam, South Kashmir. His dead body was found in a river two days after his arrest by the forces party. The minister demanded a judicial probe into his death and said that the elected government stands with the family. While the police claim Imtiyaz jumped into the stream while trying to escape, his family alleged custodial death.
Minister Sakina also alleged that security forces are resorting to harassment of innocent locals following the Pahalgam terrorist attack and appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to direct the home department to refrain from harassing innocent people unnecessarily in the name of anti-terrorist operations.
The body of Imtiyaz was found in a river in the South Kashmir district today. Officials, while releasing drone footage, of the incident has maintained that he was an OGW (Over Ground Worker) associated with terrorists and drowned while trying to escape from police custody.
23-Year-Old Over Ground Worker Found Dead
A 23-year-old Over Ground Worker (OGW) associated with terrorist groups drowned in the Vaishav Nallah of Kulgam South Kashmir, while attempting to evade security forces. The body of Imtiaz Ahmad Magray, a resident of Tangmarg, was recovered from the river on Sunday after he jumped into the fast-moving waters during a police operation.
According to official sources, Magray had been under surveillance following his confession to authorities about his involvement with two Pakistani terrorist hideouts. On May 3, he was detained and admitted to providing food and logistics to terrorists operating in the Tangmarg forest area. Following his cooperation, he agreed to assist security forces in locating a terrorist hideout.
As a joint team of police and army approached the designated area on May 4, Magray made a desperate attempt to escape by leaping into the gushing river. The drone footage captured the moment he jumped into the water, where he was subsequently swept away by the strong current.
Local residents discovered Magray’s body later and promptly alerted the police. A police team arrived on the scene to recover the body for medico-legal procedures. Authorities in the administration informed that legal proceedings are ongoing regarding this incident.
