Wife of Navy Officer Killed In Pahalgam Faces Online Trolls After Peace Appeal News24 –

The National Commission for Women (NWC) has noticed the online trolls directed at Himanshi Narwal, the wife of Navy officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The NCW is supporting Ms. Narwal, whose comments asking people not to be hostile towards Muslims or Kashmiris have led to trolls attacking her.

The commission said it is very sad and wrong hat she is being targeted for expressing her opinion. The NCW pointed out that many people, including Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, were killed in the terror attack in Pahalgam. Lieutenant Narwal was asked about his religion before being shot. The whole country is upset by this attack. After his death, it is not acceptable to attack his wife on social media for her opinion or personal life.

NCW Condemns Trolls Targeting Martyr’s Widow

The National Commission for Women (NCW) said that even if people agree or disagree with someone, they should always do it politely and within the limits of the Constitution. The commission added, “Any agreement or disagreement must always be expressed decently and within Constitutional boundaries. The National Commission for Women is committed to protecting every woman’s respect and dignity.”

NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatakr also shared a message on X, saying that while some people may not agree with what Ms. Narwal said, it is wrong to troll her or make personal attacks just because of her opinion.

Young Widow’s Message for Peace After Attack Faces Online Hate

The couple had gotten married just a few days before the terror attack and were in Kashmir for their honeymoon when 26-year-old Navy officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal was killed, along with 26 other people, in a brutal attack.

Sad and emotional images showed Ms. Narwal sitting next to her husband’s body, still wearing her wedding bangle. These visuals deeply touched people all over the country.

The terror attack led to a lot of anger on social media. Some people started blaming Kashmiris and Muslims. In her first statement after the attack, Ms. Narwal asked people not to spread hate. She said, “I want the entire country to pray for him (Vinay), that wherever he is, he has found peace. That is all I ask.” She also said, “There is something else I wish to say. I see hatred growing, directed at Muslims and Kashmiris. We do not want this. We only wish for peace, nothing else.” Ms. Narwal also asked that the people responsible for the attack should be punished.

But her request for peace led to a lot of abuse online. Many people attacked the young woman with cruel comments, even tough she had just lost her husband days after their wedding. Some made mean remarks about her personal life, and others said she should not get her husband’s pension. Despite the hate, many people stood by her and asked the authorities to take action.
