Is The May 7 Civil Defence Mock Drill A Call For War? What Is India Preparing For- And What Should You Do? News24 –

Yes, India will hold Pakistan accountable for the brutal killing of 26 innocent lives- individuals reportedly asked about their religion before being mercilessly murdered. In our democratic country, we teach our children never to question anyone’s faith or inquire about their religion. But on April 22, we were struck by a terrorist attack- one funded and supported by Pakistan. Armed men who crossed the border opened fire on those who didn’t belong to a specific religion. And now, the same Islamic nation is in a state of panic, frantically claiming- even crying out that “India is going to attack us.”

Since then, India has taken a mature and strategic stand, diplomatically engaging the international community against Pakistan. Simultaneously, it began implementing measures to isolate and downgrade Pakistan. These included the suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, closure of Indian airspace and maritime routes for Pakistan, among other actions. In addition, India started exerting pressure on the United States, Italy, several European nations, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to halt financial support to a country that harbours terrorism.

What Is a Civil Defence Mock Drill

Civil defence mock drills are practice exercises that simulate emergency situations to help civilians, government agencies, and emergency services get ready for possible dangers, especially in war-like situations such as missile strikes, air attacks, or other hostile events.

Civil Defence Mock Drill On May 7

On Monday, the Ministry of Home Affairs directed all states and Union Territories to conduct civil defence mock drills across 244 designated districts, including those identified as vulnerable to various threats, on Wednesday. This large-scale exercise is likely to evoke memories of past full-scale wars, with China in 1962 and Pakistan in 1965 and 1971. The purpose of the mock drill is to test and strengthen the preparedness of India’s civil defence machinery in the event of a potential attack or war. The following are the motives of the mock drills.

  • To test the effectiveness of air raid warning systems
  • Check and sort activation of Hotline and Radio Communication Links with the Indian Air Force for seamless coordination
  • Functionality testing of the main and backup (shadow) control rooms for crisis response
  • Training civilians, students, and others in civil defence protocols to safeguard themselves during hostile attacks
  • Implementation of crash blackout procedures to minimise visibility during emergencies
  • Early-stage camouflaging of critical infrastructure and installations to protect them from enemy detection
  • Verification of Civil Defence services, including warden duties, firefighting, rescue operations, and depot management
  • Updation of the CD Plan & its rehearsal
Updation of the evacuation plan & its rehearsal
  • Cleaning of bunkers, trenches, etc.
  • Assessment of crash blackout readiness and effectiveness
  • Evaluation of evacuation plans and their practical execution during simulations

India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced mock drills at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan are increasing. This comes after a deadly attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where terrorists opened fire in Baisaran Valley and killed 26 civilians, most of them tourists.

India believes the attack has links across the border and has promised strict punishment for those responsible. In response, India has taken several strong steps against Pakistan. These include suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, stopping travel through the Attari land route, cancelling visas, and closing Indian airspace to Pakistani planes.

Pakistan called the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty an “act of war” and responded by saying it would take similar actions, including putting the Simla Agreement on hold.
