The Civil Defence in Lucknow conducted mock drill exercises in the police lines area on Tuesday, following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan due to the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack that resulted in 26 deaths and numerous injuries.
Police And Administration Prepare For Nationwide Drills
Local administration and police officers participated in scheduled mock drills set to take place tomorrow based on directives from the Union Home Ministry.
A police officer said, “Nationwide mock drills will be held tomorrow. Civil Defence, Police and local administration are preparing for it today.”
Air Raid Siren Tested As Part Of Preparations
The administration conducted an air raid siren test which functioned as part of preparations for a nationwide mock drill.
“We are a disciplined team. We know what to do and what not to do. We will clearly show what is to be done when there is a bomb threat. We are making the public aware – how can one take shelter in the open, and if you are in the house, what corner should you choose to take shelter? We will also raise sirens in case of a blackout announcement. We should keep torches at our house for some ease,” Amarnath Mishra, Chief Warden of Civil Defence, told ANI.
The civil defence arranged a meeting for its staff to provide information about protective measures for citizens during potential air strikes against the city. The guidelines specified protective protocols for the public.
The civil defence personnel received training about the necessary precautions citizens needed to take during sudden attacks to minimize damage. The training materials explained crowd management procedures for disaster situations.
Statewide Drills Ordered By Uttar Pradesh DGP
The state’s districts must perform emergency preparation drills alongside public participation as directed by Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar. Officials in the district receive orders to establish proper security measures.
The Indian authorities plan to run mock drills across 244 districts spanning multiple regions of the country. The mock drill operations will take place in 19 districts of the Uttar Pradesh region. The Indian Government categorized Bulandshahr in category A on their list while 16 cities received placement in category B, and two cities fell under category C. Fears remain high that Pakistan could strike the nuclear center located in Narora within Bulandshahr. The government selected 19 cities to participate in a mock drill scheduled for May 7.
Which District Lands In Which Category?
UP DGP Prashant Kumar received orders from the Government of India to organize Civil Defense mock drills across the state. A mock drill session will take place in 19 districts throughout UP. Bulandshahr District sits in the A rating category. The B category includes both small and major urban areas of Agra, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut, Mathura, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Varanasi, Bakshi Ka Talab, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Nagar, and Sarsawa. The areas designated as the C category harbor both Bagmat and Muzaffarnagar. The 19 districts will conduct their mock drill exercises on May 7.
“Instructions were received from the Government of India regarding the mock drill of civil defence. From there, 19 districts have been identified: one is in the A category, two are in the C category, and all the rest are in the B category. However, keeping in view the sensitivity of the place, instructions have been given by the government that this mock drill should be conducted in all the districts in collaboration with all our verticals – be it police, fire, civil administration or disaster department, so that we can deal with any emergency situation,” DGP Kumar told reporters.
The Union Home Ministry has directed multiple states to perform civil defence simulation exercises on May 7 to ensure optimal operational readiness. Civil defense measures involve the implementation of alert sirens together with training civilians and students for self-protection during enemy assaults.
The measures also include the provision of crash blackout measures, provision for early camouflaging of vital installations and updation of the evacuation plan and its rehearsal.
