Rajkummar Rao-Wamiqa Gabbi’s Bhool Chuk Maaf Gets New Release Date After Legal Battle; Find Out When It Hits Theatres

Rajkummar Rao’s romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf is now all set for a theatrical release after a legal dispute with PVRInox, according to an exclusive Pinkvilla report.

Earlier, set to premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video due to tensions surrounding the ongoing India Pakistan conflict, the film faced immediate backlash from exhibitors when the decision was announced just a day before its scheduled release on May 8. PVRInox filed a legal case against Vijan’s Maddock Films, demanding Rs 60 crore in damages for breach of contract.

In a recent development the court has now ruled in favor of the film’s theatrical release, and the film is all set to hit cinemas on May 23, 2025. Pinkvilla qouted a source, “The court has passed its order in the Maddock Films vs PVRInox Cinemas case. Bhool Chuk Maaf, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, will now release in cinemas on May 23, 2025. Maddock Films plans to resume its marketing campaign from May 15.”

For the unversed, production house Maddock Films took the decision of releasing Bhool Chuk Maaf directly on OTT in the light of recent situation and the heightened security drills across the country. The movie was supposed to release in theatres on May 9. PVR Inox argued that the decision of film’s direct OTT release was a clear breach of their binding agreement signed on May 6, 2025. The agreement reportedly mandated not only a theatrical release but also an 8-week exclusivity window before any digital premiere.

However, the makers said that the clause requiring an 8 week theatrical holdback only applied if the film was released in cinemas. They further added that they have the right to choose the release platform as copyright holders.
