After Breaching 90-Mark, Neeraj Chopra Set To Compete At Paris Diamond League 2025 After 8 Years News24 –

India’s Olympic gold medalist and current world champion javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra, will return to competition at the Paris Diamond League 2025 on June 20 at the Stade Sebastien-Charlety, according to an Olympics.com report. This is the second Diamond League competition of the season for Neeraj, having competed in Doha earlier this year.

Return to Paris After 8 Years

Curiously enough, this will be Neeraj’s first time on the Paris Diamond League stage since 2017. In that year’s edition, the then rising Indian sensation had brought home a 84.67m throw for fifth place overall. The victory was secured by Germany’s Johannes Vetter, who brought home the gold with an 88.74m.

Neeraj was supposed to compete in the 2024 Paris Diamond League but had pulled out for extensive training in the run-up to the Paris Olympics, demonstrating his intent to peak at the grandest level.

Record-Breaking Form in 2025

Chopra has already hogged the limelight in the 2025 season with a national record-breaking throw. At the Doha Diamond League in May, he had thrown a huge distance of 90.23m, improving his own best of 89.94m he did in the Stockholm Diamond League in 2022. Though he broke the national record, he had to settle for the second spot in Doha, behind Germany’s Julian Weber, who threw a distance of 91.06m.

Recent Performances: Battle with Weber Continues

The battle between Neeraj and Julian Weber resumed at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Chorzow, Poland, on May 23. Competing in adverse weather, Neeraj threw his best effort of 84.14m on his last attempt to finish second once again, with Weber topping the podium with 86.12m.

Busy Schedule Ahead for Neeraj

Neeraj started his 2025 campaign on a high note, dominating the Potch Invitational Meet in South Africa in April with a mark of 84.52m. Ahead of him, he is also included in the Golden Spike athletics competition in Czechia on June 24, just days after his Paris outing.

Notably, he will be the main attraction at the first Neeraj Chopra Classic on July 5 in Bengaluru, a new event on the Indian athletics calendar in honor of the Olympic champion’s triumphs.

Eyes on the Diamond League Final

With each performance adding cumulative points, Neeraj hopes to qualify for the Diamond League 2025 Final, which will be held in Zurich on August 27–28. His consistent top results this season have placed him in good contention.
