A 21-year-old man who allegedly abducted and raped a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in the Lucknow, Alambagh area on Thursday was killed in an encounter on Friday, police said.
The suspect, identified as Deepak Kumar, abducted the toddler near Chandanagar Metro station when she was sleeping beside her mother on Thursday, police said.
When her mother woke up and found that the girl was missing, they tried to search in a nearby locality, but after hours of searching, when they failed to recover her, the case was reported at the Alambagh police station.
“On the morning of June 5, at 10 am, a complaint was registered that a two-and-a-half-year-old girl had been raped. A case was registered, and five teams were formed. As per the CCTV footage of the scooter, the accused was identified as Deepak Verma. The Commissioner of Police was given a proposal to declare a reward of Rs. 1 lakh,” DCP Central Lucknow Ashish Srivastava said, as quoted by ANI.

Subsequently multiple teams were formed, and he was arrested on Friday following an extensive investigation. Police said Kumar, who was injured in a brief gunfight, died at a hospital. “Accused Verma, who was injured in an encounter with the police, has died during treatment,” said Shrivastava.
CCTV footage of the incident also circulated on social media platforms. The video shows that a man carried a minor on his lap and took his near Metro lift. After raping the minor, the suspect left the minor under a metro bridge from where she was recovered. Further investigation is underway, police said.
