A recent update has revealed that Hyundai has been developing an all new 1.2 litre Turbocharged Gasoline direct injection engine that would play a pivotal role in powering its future Hybrid and crossover models. A report by Auto car further revealed that the TGDI engine would play a pivotal role in powering its future Hybrid and compact crossover models.
The New Four Cylinder engine would be able to provide high efficiency and compatibility with electrified architectures, aligning with the company’s overall shift multi -powertrain offerings across the mainstream segment.
New Hyundai 1.2 Litre Turbo Petrol Engine Details
Sources that reported to Autocar revealed that the engine would be unveiled in an all new crossover vehicle know as the Bayon. The Bayon as of yet has been slated for launch in the second half of 2026, before being adapted to use in upcoming Hybrid models ahead. These engine would be able to offer a fine balance of Performance, mileage and affordability.
Hyundai Hybrid Models in India
Hyundai has expansive plans to equip their existing models with Hybrid powertrains, but they have not confirmed any timelines. Sources revealed to Autocar that the new Hyundai Creta and the Palisade would be the first few vehicles that would be equipped with Hybrid Powertrain. Its possible that the Palisade might be equipped with a bigger engine due to its overall proportions.
Transmission Options May Include DCT or e-CVT
The New engine might be paired with DTC or e-CVT depending upon the application. The new engine would be complaint with the Cafe 3 and BS7 emission norms. Since the GST rates in Hybrids have been kept stagnant the development of the new engine would be heavily dependent cost control and localization. It only inevitable that with launch of the all new engine the Manufacturer would soon be launching a slew of all new vehicles to go along. The Bayon would not replace the i20 rather it would be placed above the new i20.
