Pune Bridge Collapse: Four people died and 51 others sustained injuries when an old narrow bridge over the River Indrayani near Talegaon in Pune collapsed on Sunday afternoon. The injured have been taken to different hospitals for treatment. The tragic incident occurred around 3:15 pm on Sunday and the officials were alerted around 3:30 pm. Upon receiving the information, the rescue team was deployed swiftly to the area. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the state government will provide a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the bridge collapse incident. Additionally, the state government will also bear the cost for the medical treatment of the injured.
The deceased have been identified as Chandrakant Salve, Rohit Mane, and Vihaan Mane, while the fourth remains unidentified. According to reports, around 15-20 people were present on the bridge at the time of the collapse. It is being said that they all fell into the river and have been swept away by the current.
District Collector On Pune Bridge Collapse Incident
Speaking to ANI, District Collector Jitendra Dudi said, “A total of 51 people are injured and admitted to different hospitals, taking treatment, and four individuals have died. Three were identified as Chandrakant Salve, Rohit Mane, and Vihaan Mane, and one was male but unidentified…”
“The incident happened at 3:15 pm and we got the information at 3:30 pm… A team of about 250 people immediately came here. The rescue operation started, and so far we have rescued about 38 people,” he added.
As of the latest update, Quick Response Team has reached the site and are assessing the ground situation.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed sorrow over the incident and spoke to CM Fadnavis. Shah has prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
