Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani’s Last Rites In Rajkot Today With Full State Honours – Check Timings And Details News24 –


Former Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP leader Vijay Rupani, who lost his life in the tragic Air India Crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, will be cremated in Rajkot today with full state honours. Ahead of his last rites, hoardings paying tribute to the victims of crash, including former CM Vijay Rupani, were put up in Ahmedabad. The Tricolour has been brought to the Civil Hospital mortuary, which will be used to be drape his mortal remains. Around 2,000 kilograms of flowers will be used to decorate the hearse van that will carry the body of the late CM.

According to reports, at 11.30 am on Monday, the family will receive Rupani’s mortal remains from the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. The mortal remains will be then taken to Rajkot by air and is expected to reach there by 2 pm. The last rites will be performed at 5 pm with state honours.

Chairman of Ramnathpara crematorium in Rajkot told ANI, that the funeral procession will begin at 5 pm from Rupani’s residence. He said, “The ‘agni sanskar’ of Vijay Rupani will be performed here…The ‘agni sanskar’ will be performed around 6 pm, the procession will begin at 5 pm from his residence.”

Rupani was among the 241 who died when the London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff, colliding with a doctor’s hostel complex near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. His identity was confirmed through DNA testing on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Gujarat government has announced a one-day state mourning for former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. In an order issued by the state government on Sunday, the state will fly the national flag at half-mast on all buildings flying the flag, and no official entertainment will take place on the day of mourning.
