‘I Had To Say No Because…’: Jasprit Bumrah REVEALS Why He Didn’t Become Captain For India News24 –

As the 5 match Test series is now 3 days away from taking place, starting from the first test match in Headingly, many spectators and cricket Pundits have raised eyebrows over Shubman Gill being elected as the Test captain for India. With experienced players like Jasprit Bumrah, who have previously led the team from the front during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and gave an exemplary performance, not being chosen as the Test captain, the Test series was seen to be slipping out of their hands. But former captain Jasprit Bumrah revealed why he did not opt for the captaincy.

“Before Rohit & Virat retired – During the IPL, I had spoken to BCCI, that I have discussed about workload going forward in a five-match Test series, I have spoken to people who manage my back – we came to conclusion that we have to be little more smart, then I called the BCCI that I don’t want to be looked at the leadership role because I won’t be able to play all the Test matches, BCCI was looking at me as the leadership role but I have to say no to them because it’s not ideal when someone is leading for 3 tests then some other have to lead rest of the tests so it’s not fair for the team as I wanted to put team first”. Jasprit Bumrah told Sky Sports Cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah Injury

It is confirmed that Bumrah will be featured in only 3 Test matches as the workload management is necessary as well. During the January 2025 BorderGavaskar Trophy series, Jasprit Bumrah sustained a lower-back injury in the final Test against Australia, and was unable to complete the match because of it, despite being forced to withdraw in the middle of one of the sessions in Sydney.

He received scans and was asked to rest, nearly losing four months of cricket- India in the Champions Trophy and the beginning of the IPL season. Bumrah has also been under rehab at the Centre of Excellence operated by the BCCI and has started bowling again at the NCA at Bengaluru, and a strict check on his fitness is to ensure that his back does not undergo further stress.
