Sunjay Kapur’s Funeral To Be Held Today; A Prayer Meeting Scheduled In Delhi


Sunjay Kapur, renowned industrialist and Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband, passed away in the United Kingdom at the age of 53. According to reports, he suffered a heart attack while playing polo. His funeral was reportedly delayed due to citizenship issues but it will now be held in New Delhi today (June 19). As per ETimes, the repatriation process required extra documentation and clearances before his remains could be brought back to India.

On June 22, a prayer meet will be held at the Taj Palace Hotel in Delhi between 4 to 5 PM. Sunjay Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar and was known for being a prominent name in the automotive industry. He was also the Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Northern Region, which worked in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and three Union Territories under his leadership.

Talking about his personal life, he was first married to designer Nandita Mahtani but they separated after two years. He then married Karisma Kapoor in 2003 and they have two children. They divorced in 2016 but continued to co-parent their kids. After his separation from Karisma, he tied the knot to longtime partner and model Priya Sachdev. The couple welcomed a son soon after their marriage.

After his untimely demise, his post on X, that was shared on June 9, has been catching the attention of the netizens. In the post, Sunjay talked about the limited time on Earth. The note read, “Your time on Earth is limited. Leave the ‘what ifs’ to the philosophers and instead dive headfirst into the ‘why nots’.” Meanwhile, he wrote in the caption, “Progress demands bold choices, not perfect conditions”.

Meanwhile, a few hours before his death, Sunjay Kapur posted about the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. He wrote on X, “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour. #planecrash.”
