‘One Must Be Mentally Unstable..’

Actor Sudhanshu Pandey has come forward strongly against controversial comments made by another actor Ram Kapoor during promotions of his new web series Mistry. Ram Kapoor is encountering some negative publicity after making bad and unacceptable remarks particularly towards women at a media event.

Due to the backlash, streaming platform JioHotstar has dropped Ram Kapoor as an actor in all future publicity efforts of the series Mistry.

During an interview with FilmiBeat, Sudhanshu Pandey lashed out in disappointment describing the unacceptable behaviour of Ram Kapoor. He said, “Firstly, Ram is damaging his own image by making such comments. Secondly, one must be mentally unstable to say such things, particularly when referring to a woman who is in close proximity. A decent individual should always treat others, especially women, with respect. If Ram has indeed said something like this, then I sincerely apologise on behalf of our entire industry.”

Sudhanshu also said that such behaviour was shameful for someone who has been in the television industry for so long.

Ram Kapoor himself acknowledged making the remarks but said that he did not mean to offend anyone. But some of his remarks instigated numerous criticisms. At one of the most significant promotional events, he joked about kissing one of the male employees in the marketing team. He also remarked that his mother “should have gone to sleep” instead of conceiving him. He created a controversy when he compared it to being gang-raped when describing his experience in a press interaction. Moreover, he also used improper sexual position lines when addressing a journalist. Another escalation of criticism came after he made the statement about the outfit of female crew members, having said that, “If they are in my line of sight, how can I not look?”

Such comments were quite disturbing to the industry and the public. Consequently, Ram Kapoor has been sacked of advertising his own show and people are demanding responsible behaviour of celebrities and public figures.
