The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an important weather warning, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall across the country for the next six to seven days. The department says that the monsoon has now become active and will remain effective in large parts of northwest, central and eastern India.
Continuous rain is expected in states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim and Jharkhand. Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Odisha may receive excessive rainfall for a few days.
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall may also occur in Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and parts of Gujarat. While this will increase moisture for agriculture, there will also be a risk of waterlogging and flash floods in some sensitive areas. Saurashtra and Kutch are also expected to receive significant rainfall during the next week.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall has also been predicted at isolated places in some areas of Northeast India. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Karnataka may also receive heavy rainfall on some days of the week.
