Why Team India Won’t Tour Bangladesh In 2025

India’s August 2025 scheduled white-ball tour of Bangladesh has been officially rescheduled to September 2026, the BCCI said in a release issued on Saturday. The three One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals bilateral series has been postponed because of scheduling issues.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have agreed to postpone the white-ball series between India and Bangladesh. After discussions between both boards, the decision takes into account international commitments and scheduling priorities of both teams,” the BCCI said.

BCB also indicated its eagerness to host the Indian team in 2026 and went on to say that reshuffled dates and a complete schedule would be determined closer to the series.

India’s home season next year is full of action, with the T20 Asia Cup in October being the first one, followed by two Tests against the West Indies. The blue team will also tour Australia for a white-ball series later in the month, consisting of three ODIs and five T20Is. The 2025 schedule will come to a close with an all-format high-profile home series against South Africa.

India’s 2024 campaign concluded with a bag of mixed results in all formats. The T20I team produced a stellar performance, winning the T20 World Cup crown in June and ending the year on 22 wins from 26 matches. The ODI team had a low-key year, playing a single series – a 2-1 defeat to Sri Lanka. The Test team ended the year with eight victories, six losses, and one draw in 15 games.

In the meantime, there were also fears regarding Bangladesh’s political instability that contributed to the deferment of the tour. The BCCI had reportedly hesitated to send the team in the face of continuing unrest in the country, as reported by PTI on July 4. Bangladesh has been going through political instability since the previous year, and that caused the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina government. Bangladesh is currently governed by an interim regime headed by Muhammad Yunus, and there are no national elections scheduled until next year.

With the unpredictable security situation, the BCCI apparently waited for a stable government to be established before going ahead with the tour, according to reports.
