Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra will bring the epic saga of Ramayana to the big screen. They have unveiled the first glimpse of ‘Ramayana: Part 1’ and fans can’t keep their calm. Ever since the first look featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana dropped and Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, fans have been raving about the top notch VFX and music. But now, what’s turning heads is the massive scale and budget of the project an estimated Rs 1600 crore, making it one of the most expensive films in Indian cinema history.
As per a Filmfare report, Ranbir Kapoor is the highest-paid actor in the cast, reportedly earning Rs 75 crore per part, amounting to a whopping Rs 150 crore for the two-part epic. Sai Pallavi is also receiving a significant fee of Rs 6 crore per part, totaling Rs 12 crore for the franchise.
Meanwhile, Yash is not just acting in the film but also co-producing it alongside Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios.
A report by Bollywood Hungama reveals that the project’s total budget is estimated at Rs 1600 crore, split across two films. A source close to producer Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus Studios explained:
The source said, “While Ramayana 1 is being made on a budget of Rs 900 crore, the second part of Ramayana has a cost of Rs 700 crore. The reason for the reduction in budget for part two is a result of a large investment in asset and world creation for part one, leaving just the action sequences for the second instalment. The characters built and designed alongside the set pieces will continue to be a part of the second instalment.”
The film also boasts a star-studded ensemble: Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, Ravi Dubey as Laxman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, and Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari. Their looks are still under wraps.
Ramayana: Part 1 will release in 2026, with the second part arriving in theatres in 2027.
