Prime Minister Narendra Modi Inaugurates Kartavya Bhawan, First Under the Common Central Secretariat Project News24 –
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the Kartavya Bhawan, the first of ten planned buildings under the Common Central Secretariat (CCS) project, which will house various government offices. The aim behind the project is to streamline interdepartmental correspondence by bringing together multiple ministries in one place.
Speaking from the Kartavya path upon the inauguration, PM Modi said, “The working conditions of these administrative buildings were very bad…Many ministries of the Indian government are being run from 50 different locations in Delhi. Most of these ministries are being run from rented buildings, with an annual expenditure of Rs 1.5 thousand crores. This amount is being spent by the central government just to pay rent…Many more Kartavya Bhavans are also being made.”

Key Ministries to Move from Raisina Hills to Kartavya Bhawan
Kartavya Bhawan 03, the first building to open, will accommodate the Ministries of Home Affairs, External Affairs, Rural Development, MSME, DoPT, Petroleum and Natural Gas, and the office of the Principal Scientific Adviser.
The shifting of the Home Ministry and the Department of Personnel from North Block at Raisina Hills to the new address holds huge significance, as these offices have operated from the same structure for nearly 90 years.
Buildings Planned for Revamp Under Central Vista
The Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry plans to construct ten CCS buildings under the Central Vista Redevelopment Project. The entire project is expected to be completed by June 2027. The government has clarified that some buildings will be retained as they are; these include the National Museum, National Archives, Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium, as per The Times Of India.
As part of the Central Vista project, the government has already built a new Parliament building, the Vice President’s Enclave, and redeveloped the Kartavya Path, which runs from Vijay Chowk to India Gate.
Executive Enclave to Follow
Beyond the Common Central Secretariat, the government also plans to build an Executive Enclave. This will include a new Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Cabinet Secretariat, India House, and the National Security Council Secretariat.
