Seven Women Pilgrims Killed, 30 Injured As Truck Plunges Into Valley In Pune’s Khed, Maharashtra News24 –


A devastating accident struck Khed taluka in Pune district, Maharashtra, when a pickup van carrying women devotees to the Kundeshwar Shiva temple plunged into a 30-foot-deep ditch on Ghat Marg. Seven women lost their lives instantly, and 25 to 30 others sustained injuries in the tragic incident in the western region of Khed taluk.

According to reports, the women from Papalwadi village were travelling to Kundeshwar for darshan when the pickup van lost balance at a sharp turn on the ghat and fell into the ditch. There were around 25 to 30 women and some children in the vehicle. Relief and rescue operations were initiated immediately after the incident, and the injured have been admitted to the nearby Paith Rural Hospital. The condition of some is reported to be critical.

According to DCP Shivaji Pawar, “Seven people were killed and several others injured when a pick-up van carrying women and children going to the Kundeshwar temple in Papalwadi village under the Mahalunge MIDC police station area fell 25-30 feet down a slope. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over this incident. PM Modi wrote, “Saddened by the loss of lives due to an accident in Pune, Maharashtra. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the mishap. May the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis

The Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis informed that the state government will provide financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the victims. “Financial assistance of 4 lakh rupees will be provided to the families of the deceased on behalf of the state government. More than 20 people were injured in this accident and have been admitted to various hospitals. Arrangements are being made for their complete treatment, and I am personally in contact with the Police Commissioner,” the ‘X’ post read.
