Violence Erupts In Udaipur After Child Rape Case; Police Vehicles Torched, 38 Arrested News24 –

A crowd gathered outside a police station in Rajasthan’s Udaipur district, demanding a stern action against a man accused of raping an eight-year-old girl. The protest escalated into violence, with demonstrators vandalising and damaging public buses as well as vehicles belonging to the police and district administration.

As tensions rose and the situation became volatile, additional forces from three nearby police stations were deployed to restore order, according to media reports.

The Indian Express quoted police saying, “The girl had gone to a field on Sunday evening, at around 7.30 pm. The accused person then forcefully took the girl to the nearby bushes, where he allegedly raped her and then threatened her not to tell anyone. The girl, however, went back home and told her parents about the ordeal. Then the family went to the police station, and the girl was admitted to the hospital.”

After the incident, the accused Ramlal, who was identified by the police, fled from the spot. However, with the help of CCTV footage, the police traced his location and arrested him on Monday. A case has been registered against him under the POCSO Act.

Around 10 am on Monday, a large number of villagers reached the local police station and started demanding strict action against the accused. According to police sources, the talks were going on peacefully, but in the meantime someone spread the rumour that the victim had died during treatment.

The news made the mob furious and they pelted stones at the policemen. Police arrested 38 people on charges of rioting and violence. According to officials, the situation is under control.
