The World Padel League (WPL) returns for its thrilling third season in Mumbai on August 12th 2025, featuring the sport’s best players on a global stage. Among the exciting newcomers is Jorge “Coki” Nieto, the talented Spanish player and current World No. 8, making his WPL debut with the Game Changers Lions. This season, he will pair with fellow Spaniard Gonzalo Rubio as they take on the Vernost Jaguars in the opening match of the league.
Nieto is eager to experience not only the thrill of the tournament but also the vibrant culture of India. “I am excited about participating in the WPL tournament and eager to discover a country with a culture and customs so different from ours. I think it will be a wonderful experience,” he shares.
Playing in front of millions worldwide, thanks to WPL’s broadcast across 150 countries, is another special thrill for Nieto. “Padel has grown significantly in recent years, and although we are used to playing in front of large crowds, it is always exciting to have millions of people watching and cheering you on, even if it is from their homes,” he explains.
His approach to team competitions is shaped by his experience with the Spanish national squad that won the 2021 Padel World Championship in Doha. “I love playing in teams. Being able to compete with more than one teammate and having team strategies is something I enjoy a lot, and I think it’s an exciting format for viewers,” Nieto shares.
As the World No. 8, Nieto knows that consistency at the top demands sacrifice and perseverance. “Always being at the top and competing with the best in the world is very difficult and requires a lot of hard work, but the most important thing is perseverance and trusting that all that effort will eventually pay off,” he reflects. His goal for WPL Season 3 is clear: “To win every game and help the Game Changers Lions lift the trophy.”
Nieto is optimistic about padel’s future in India, stating, “India is a huge country with millions and millions of people, and I have no doubt that this sport will continue to grow with new clubs, competitions, and many new fans.” With fresh talent like Jorge Nieto joining the WPL and a growing fan base in India, padel’s global momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
