Who Is Dewald Brevis? The Youngest South Africa Batter To Score A T20I Century News24 –

South Africa’s batter Dewald Brevis has rapidly emerged as one of the most promising young talents and on Tuesday in Darwin, he made history by becoming the youngest South African batter to score a T20I century. The 22-year old batter achieved the milestone as he smashed 125 off 56 balls* against Australia in the second T20I.

Born on April 29, 2003, Brevis started playing cricket at a very young age and he first came to spotlight during the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup where he topped the run-scoring charts. His stellar performance even earned him an IPL contract with the Mumbai Indians. Popularly known as “Baby AB” due to his similarity in strokeplay to AB de Villiers.

His hype intensified in October 2022 when Brevis smashed 162 off just 57 balls in domestic T20 match for the Titans – this is also highest T20 score ever in South Africa. Dewald Brevis left his mark in global T20 leagues in Caribbean Premier League, T20 Blast and Major League Cricket.

Dewald Brevis made his T20I debut against Australia but he only managed to score five runs in his two appearances. In 2023-24, One-Day Cup, Brevis finished as the third-highest run-scorer following which he featured for MI Cape Town in SA20 and helped them win their maiden title. He scored 573 runs at an average of 47.75, including two centuries.

Now in the second T20I against Australia, Brevis remained unbeaten to score 125 in Darwin. He took over all the Australian bowlers and left them frustrated with his explosive batting. His knock makes him the youngest South African batter to hit a T20I century beating Richard Levi’s previous record. His century is also the second fastest by a batter in South Africa as he reached this milestone in just 41 balls.

In the Indian Premier League, Brevis was signed as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season.
