WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels, one of the most celebrated superstars in professional wrestling history, is preparing for yet another major surgery. According to his longtime friend and fellow Hall of Famer Kevin Nash, the Heartbreak Kid will soon undergo double knee replacement surgery.
The revelation came during a recent episode of Nash’s Kliq This podcast, where the former nWo member provided an update on Michaels’ health. Nash disclosed that the WWE icon had already gone under the knife for a back procedure that offered him some long-awaited relief.
From the Casket Match to Today
Michaels’ back problems date back to 1998, when he suffered a serious injury during his infamous Casket Match against The Undertaker at the Royal Rumble. The accident forced him into early retirement at WrestleMania XIV, where he dropped the WWE Championship to Stone Cold Steve Austin.
At the time, doctors inserted rods in his back to stabilize the injury. Nash explained that those rods eventually twisted and had to be removed, leading to more complications over the years. Despite this, Michaels staged one of the greatest comebacks in wrestling history in 2002, delivering classic matches for nearly another decade before retiring again in 2010.
“Shawn just got done. He got an operation because when he messed his back up on that casket match, they put some rods and stuff in his back. And they had to take them out, because they were all twisted. And Shawn needs both his knees replaced on top of that,” Nash revealed.
Instant Relief, But More Challenges Ahead
The good news, according to Nash, is that the recent back procedure has given Michaels noticeable relief. The two-time Hall of Famer noted that his friend woke up with significantly less pain.
“And who’s to say, as long as they’ve [Shawn’s legs] been bowed like that, there’s not some hip things,” Nash added, hinting that Michaels may still face further health challenges.
Legacy Beyond the Ring
Now serving as WWE’s Senior Vice President of Talent Development and overseeing NXT, Michaels continues to influence the industry, shaping the next generation of superstars. His resilience, both in and out of the ring, mirrors the fighting spirit that made him “Mr. WrestleMania.”
While fans will undoubtedly be concerned about Michaels’ upcoming double knee replacement, they’ll also remember his track record of comebacks. If history is any indication, Shawn Michaels will approach this new battle with the same determination that defined his legendary career.
